Central Point Elementary School benefitted from State of Oregon incentives to help them go solar.

Central Point Elementary School Goes Solar

Central Point Elementary School has taken a significant step toward sustainability by installing a cutting-edge solar + storage system. This project, completed by True South Solar, demonstrates how renewable energy can empower schools, save money, and build a brighter future for Southern Oregon communities.

The 109 kW system, comprised of 200 solar panels, is paired with a 250 kW ELM commercial battery. With this new system, the school will reduce its electricity costs, gain reliable backup power during outages, and contribute to Oregon’s clean energy goals.

Bringing Solar to Life: Project Overview

True South Solar designed and installed a 109 kW solar array tailored to meet Central Point Elementary School’s energy needs. The system’s 250 kW commercial battery not only stores excess solar energy but also ensures uninterrupted power during outages—an essential feature for Southern Oregon, where blackouts are a common challenge.

Since the end of the pandemic, school districts across Oregon have faced challenges balancing their budgets. With this system in place, the school will save money while reducing its carbon footprint, enabling the district to allocate more resources to education and student programs.

Grant Funding Fuels Resilience

This project was made possible by the Oregon Department of Energy’s Community Renewable Energy Grant Program. This grant provided the school district with critical funding to bring the solar + storage project to life. Programs like these are essential for making renewable energy accessible to public institutions, fostering resilience and sustainability across the state.

Over the life of the system, the school district is projected to save tens of thousands of dollars on energy costs. These savings can be reinvested into classrooms, technology, and other vital resources for students.
