Q: What is your role on the True South Solar team?
I’m the owner of True South Solar. I make sure we’re on track to achieve our mission of “Solar for Everyone and Best Jobs Ever!”
Q: What’s your favorite part of the business?
My favorite part is having the opportunity to work with happy customers and awesome teammates.
Q: What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned since starting True South Solar?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is ensuring we have the right people on our team. Our team is our secret sauce. Hiring the right people for the right positions makes all the difference in running a successful business.
Q: When did you first start thinking about solar?
I started thinking about solar in 1999. I was learning about peak oil, environmental issues and the Y2K bug. Soon after, I joined the team at Home Power Magazine where I became editor, writer, and graphic artist. I left Home Power in 2005 to enter the solar electrician apprenticeship program. I attended electrical classes at RCC and worked for Electron Connection. Four years later, I had my license, was lead installer, and was training my own apprentice. I got into the solar industry and never looked back.
Q: What’s your favorite thing to do in the sun?
I love spending my time in the sun playing mountain sports with friends and family. I enjoy mountain biking, skiing, telemark skiing, and white-water kayaking.
