True South Solar has been an active and supportive member of our community since its creation in 2010. Over the years, we have worked with a number of local organizations in partnerships, sponsorships, and innovative solar installation projects.
Below is a list of our community support actions. Each states the community partner we worked with and a link for further information.
City of Ashland’s Festival of Lights
This seasonal event brings together the Ashland community (and beyond!) in celebration of the winter holidays. Over the month of December, more than one million lights are strung throughout the city, and special events take place during the day of the parade.
Southern Oregon University
Southern Oregon University, one of the top colleges in Oregon, has the most beautiful campus landscape of any of the Universities in Oregon.
In 2016, Mt. Ashland installed a solar power system that offsets about 12% of our annual energy needs. The 85 panels are installed on the ski area’s Vehicle Shop roof. The grid-tied system was made possible with funding support from Pacific Power’s Blue Sky program customers, the Energy Trust of Oregon, and Mt. Ashland’s donors and sponsors.
Talent Maker City
In partnership with Talent Maker City, True South Solar has co-chaired the Raising Innovative Solar Engineers (R.I.S.E.) workshop. This workshop provides education about solar technology, as well as the diverse roles involved in the industry and the hands-on skills required. So far, these have been held at Talent Middle School and New Bridge High School in Grants Pass.
Rogue Community College
Rogue Community College is a public community college with campuses throughout Jackson and Josephine County. One program that is offered is the Sustainable Community Development focus award, which certifies that students are prepared to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century in preparing their communities for issues related to sustainability and diversity. True South Solar has partnered with RCC as a Service Learning partner for this focus award.
Rogue Climate is a community advocacy organization that supports clean energy, sustainable jobs, and a healthy environment for local communities, including populations most susceptible to climate change. Visit their website to learn more about their active campaigns.
Southern Oregon Regional Economic Development, Inc. is a nonprofit that seeks to create a business-friendly environment in Southern Oregon. The organization helps entrepreneurs and companies launch, relocate and prosper via business counseling, networking, and support with permits and applications,
Ashland Independent Film Festival
This five-day festival entertains thousands of people each year, showcasing over 100 documentaries, short films, and other independent features. Their mission: Celebrating the diversity of human experience through the art of independent film—enriching, educating and inspiring audiences of all ages.
Young Professionals Network
The Young Professionals Network (YPN) connects those in the early stages of their careers in order to develop and empower our community’s future business leaders. YPN’s mission is to connect, develop and empower Young Professionals across Southern Oregon to become the region's future business leaders.
Rogue Valley Farm to School
Rogue Valley Farm to School is a nonprofit that partners with local farms and schools to foster hands-on education and appreciation for local agriculture, often while advocating for more local food in school meals. In this way, they support a healthier economy, environment, and lifestyle for our community.
Rogue Valley Earth Day
The Rogue Valley Earth Day celebration is held each year with support from a broad spectrum of private and public sponsorship. True South Solar has been a sponsor for this event for a number of years, and we have provided education and demonstrations about solar during the event.
The Siskiyou Challenge is a fundraising multi-sport relay race that provides recreationalists of all stripes with some of the best scenic byways in Southern Oregon. The proceeds benefit Rogue Valley Farm to School.
Oregon Shakespeare Festival
The Oregon Shakespeare Festival is a renowned repertory theatre in the heart of Ashland, Oregon that regularly holds audiences in the hundreds of thousands each year. Their shows and performances display art and culture across the backdrop of Southern Oregon’s beautiful land and society.
Southern Oregon Land Conservancy
The Southern Oregon Land Conservancy seeks to protect and enhance the quality of life of our human and natural communities by creating a network of conserved lands for recreation and scenic enjoyment. Through its use of community involvement and completed conservation projects, this nonprofit is recognized as a successful regional land trust.
Ashland Emergency Food Bank
The Ashland Emergency Food Bank and local faith groups, in alliance with the community at large, provide emergency food supplies, without charge, to individuals and families in the Ashland/Talent area who would otherwise go hungry. We also endeavor to increase awareness about the problem of hunger in our communities.
Providence Community Health Foundation
The Providence Foundation raises funds for the Providence Medford Medical Center and supports a number of programs that serve the poor and vulnerable. The annual Safeway Providence Festival of Festival is held by the foundation as a fundraising opportunity for patient needs throughout our community.
