Get to Know Shaun Franks, Inside Sales & Marketing

Q: What’s your role on the TSS team?
I assist with any initial questions folks have about going solar (which is easy), and set them up with a solar advisor to help design a customized energy solution.

Q: What’s your favorite part of the job?
Helping people go solar while in the Rogue Valley has really made this the best job I’ve ever had. I have to opportunity to meet a lot of awesome community members and our region is an amazing place to raise a family.

Q: When did you first start thinking about solar?
In 2011, The SOU School of Business sent me on a Summer abroad program in Germany to study renewable energy. I had an opportunity to learn more about their renewable energy legislation, which turned a country with less solar exposure than Portland, OR into a leader in clean energy.

Q: Can you tell us about some of the projects you participated in at SOU?
After returning from Germany, I became the Director of Sustainability for ASSOU (Associated Student of SOU). I worked with a group of students to create the SOU Green Fund which allocates about $50,000 a term to Energy, Water, and Campus projects (over 1 million dollars in 7 years). We were able to utilize these funds to establish the SOU Farm and support 3 Solar Projects on campus including the Stevenson Union (31.6 kW), Shasta (82.5 kW) and McLoughlin (73.7 kW) Residence Halls. Students are still using these funds to dream up a variety of sustainability projects.

Q: How do you spend your time in the sun?
You’ll find me at a variety of parks throughout the Rogue Valley, with my wife and our two sons, soaking up the laugher and the sunshine.
